Well-Child Visits and Pediatric Checkups in Houston

Is it time for your child to get a checkup? The Houston pediatricians at St. Hope Foundation are ready to help. We provide full-service pediatric care, including well-child visits and checkups, from birth until your child turns 18.

Why Are Well-Child Visits Important?

Children can be vulnerable and fragile while they’re growing up, which is why they often require more medical attention than a healthy adult. In addition to helping administer vaccines and running panels and diagnostics to catch potential ailments early, wellness checkups also give your pediatrician a chance to track your child’s developmental progress.

Tracking growth and development milestones helps ensure your child is on their way to becoming a healthy, functioning adult. Identifying potential problems or missed milestones early will enable you and your pediatrician to work together on corrective actions.

In some cases, missed milestones or delayed development may be indicate a more serious issue that requires further medical intervention. The sooner those types of issues are discovered and managed the less likely they will be to cause permanent problems down the road.

Well-child visits are also an opportunity for you to speak with a medical doctor about the care and health of your child. You can ask questions and get advice on concerns or issues you or your child may have.

Things You Should Discuss With Your Pediatrician

It’s a good idea to go into your well-child visit with some questions in mind. In the days before your visit, jot down questions you may want to ask. Some things to consider include:

  • Are there any particular childhood diseases or ailments that may manifest in the upcoming year or years? What are their symptoms?
  • Is my child at an increased risk for developing any conditions?
  • How is my child’s physical development progressing? Is there anything I can do to address any potential issues in the coming year?
  • What should I expect for my child’s growth in the coming year? Should I be concerned if they fail to meet those milestones?
  • Is my child sleeping enough?
  • Are there any special safety concerns I should keep in mind for my child at this age?
  • Is my child up to date on their vaccinations and are there any vaccines they will need in the next year or two?

When it comes to the health and wellness of your child, there truly are no bad questions. Don’t hesitate to ask or bring up concerns to your child’s pediatrician.
